Status Effects
There are many status debuffs (or status ailments) in Ragnarok Online that work against you in many ways. Both player characters and monsters are capable of inflicting them.
Note: Any status ailment immunities are nullified when the source of the status effect is 10 lvls higher than the target.
Bleeding
For the Monster Exclusive Skill see NPC BLEEDING.
This status ailment causes the following effect:
- Causes "rapid" loss of HP over time. Contrary to the effect of Poison, this CAN kill the victim - however the damage is slow enough that it rarely will. The red icon disappears but the effect stays even after relogging or map/zone changes.
- Natural HP/SP Regen disabled.
This status ailment is caused by:
- Swordman class skills: Traumatic Blow, Vital Strike, Pinpoint Attack
- Assassin Cross skill: Meteor Assault
- Merchant class skills: Acid Terror
- Sightless Mind (when using a garment compounded with Kraken Card)
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Dying cancels this ailment.
- AGI reduces the chance of occurring by 1% per point and may reduce lasting time.
- Battle Chant instantly removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who uses it, including Bleeding.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Bleeding status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Bleeding status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target,the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.
Card effects:
- Ungoliant Card grants immunity.
- Wootan Fighter Card increases resistance by 20%.
- Killer Mantis Card gives a 6% chance to inflict bleeding when receiving physical damage.
Equipments:
- Hatii Claw Adds a 2% chance of inflicting [Bleeding] on the target when doing a melee attack.
Blind

Also known as Darkness.
This status ailment causes the following effects:
This status ailment is caused by:
- Crusader class skills: Grand Cross, Holy Cross, Battle Chant
- Thief class skills: Stone Fling, Sand Attack, Meteor Assault, Sightless Mind
- Mage class skills: Lord of Vermilion, Blinding Mist
- Hunter skill: Flasher
- Priest class skills: Status Recovery
- Flame Skull Card
- Mini Octopus Card
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Green Potion, Panacea, Royal Jelly and Cure can undo the effect.
- Having high VIT and LUK will reduce the amount of time this ailment affects you, as well as the chance of being affected.
- INT also reduces the chance and duration.
- Battle Chant instantly removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who use it, including Blind.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Blind status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Blind status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target, the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.
Card effects:
- Deviruchi Card and Evil Snake Lord Card grant immunity.
- Flame Skull Card increases resistance by 30%.
- Martin Card increases resistance by 20%.
- Obeaune Card allows use of Cure, which removes blind.
Equipments:
- Dark Blinder grants immunity.
- Blinker grants immunity.
- Eyes of Illusion grants immunity.
- Sunglasses increases resistance by 5%.
- Wrench adds a 1% chance of inflicting Blind on the target when performing a physical attack.
Break
This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Movement Speed -50% if Ankle Break
- Movement Speed -30% and ASPD -10% if Knee Break
- ASPD -25% if Wrist Break
- Soft DEF -50% if Shoulder Break
- Soft DEF -25% and ATK -25% if Waist Break
- Doubles damage from this skill, leaves vulnerable to Critical Hits (?) and inflicts Bleeding if Neck Break
This status ailment is caused by:
- Lord Knight skill: Vital Strike
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- STR affects the infliction chance. (STR 204 = immune)
- AGI and LUK reduce the duration
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Break status.
Chaos
Also known as Confusion.
This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Causes the character to move into unintended directions when trying to navigate.
- Displays the emote

- Bard skill: Pang Voice
- Illusion Spectral Spear [1]: Adds a 10% chance of inflicting Chaos on the user when performing a short-ranged attack.
- Leak Card
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Acolyte's skill - Cure, Green Potion, Panacea, Royal Jelly can undo the effect.
- Battle Chant instantly removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who uses it, including Chaos.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Chaos status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Chaos status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target, the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.
Card effects:
- Giearth Card and Beer Hat (+7 or higher) grant immunity.
- Wootan Shooter Card increases resistance by 20%.
- Creamy Fear Card adds a 6% chance to auto cast Chaos on an enemy when user receives Physical Damage.
Charm
This status ailment is caused by:
- Unable to attack or target the caster
- Use on heart emotion
This status ailment is caused by:
- Dancer skill: Charming Wink
Coma
For the Monster Exclusive Skill see NPC DARKBLESSING.
This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Reduces afflicted target's HP to 1.
- Reduces afflicted target's SP to 0.
- When used against monsters, amount of EXP that equals the damage you dealt during this period is not given when monster dies.
This status ailment is caused by:
- Sage skill: Hocus-pocus
- Minstrel/Gypsy skill: Tarot Card of Fate
- Kagerou/Oboro skill: Illusion-Death
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Heal, Healing Items
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Coma. (Editor's Note: Untested. It's hard to classify Coma as a status effect, and it is unknown as to whether or not it is covered by Battle Chant's immunity effect.)
Equipment:
- Ledger of Death adds a 0.1% chance of inflicting Coma on Demi-Human race targets when performing a physical attack.
Notes:
- You can dodge Coma inducing physical attacks if you have high FLEE.
- Having higher LUK will decrease the chance of Coma when attacked.
- Inversely, having higher LUK will increase the chances for Coma infliction when attacking.
Critical Wounds

This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Lowers the effectiveness of healing skills on you, including Heal, Sanctuary, Aid Potion and recovery items. This reduction is 20% times the level of Critical Wounds that inflicted it.
- Lasts 30 seconds.
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- If a Crusader uses Sacrifice on the inflicted person, the Crusader can take the damage and be healed, regardless of the critical wounds on the target.
- The Kafra Shop item, Restoration Potion, increases healing recovery by 20%. This modifier stacks additively, so player using a Regeneration Potion struck by level 5 would have healing recovery of 20% instead of 0%.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Critical Wounds status.
Notes:
- You can dodge critical wounds inducing physical attacks if you have high FLEE, are in Safety Wall (at close range), or in Pneuma (at long range).
- Relogging cancels the status.
Crystallization
This status ailment causes the following effect:
- Causes loss of 2% of HP and 1% of SP per second.
- Cannot attack, move, use most skills and use most items.
- Increase damage received from Maces, Axes and Two-Handed Axes by 50%
- Increase damage received from Wind property magic attacks by 50%
- Reduce damage received from Daggers, One Handed Swords, Two Handed Swords, Arrows and Bullets by 50%
This status ailment is caused by:
- Kagerou/Oboro skill: Cast Ninja Spell (using Ice-Charm)
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Every single Fire Element attack.
- VIT reduces duration by 0.1s per point.
- Since the Srophos Card inflicts Crystallization for a duration of 3 seconds (as opposed to inflicting it for an indeterminate amount of time) that means immunity is not present with 99 VIT nor is the duration reduced by VIT.
- Having 0 SP will immediately cancel the effect.
Curse

This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Reduce your ATK by 25%.
- LUK becomes 0.
- Drastically Reduces your Movement Speed.
This status ailment is caused by:
- Paladin skill: Battle Chant
- High Wizard skill: Napalm Vulcan
- Minstrel/Gypsy skill: Tarot Card of Fate
- Flame Skull Card
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Panacea, Royal Jelly, Holy Water, Acolyte's skill - Blessing can undo the effect.
- LUK reduces chance of being Cursed by 1% per point, VIT reduces duration of being Cursed. NOTE: VIT may play a part in resisting as well.
- Battle Chant instantly removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who uses it, including Curse.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Cursed status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Cursed status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target,the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.
Card effects:
- Evil Snake Lord Card grants immunity.
- Flame Skull Card increases resistance by 30%.
Deadly Poison
This status ailment causes the following effect:
- Initially Max HP reduced by 10% (if player)
- Initially Max HP reduced by 15% (if monster)
- HP reduced by Max HP's 4% each 1 second

Deep Sleep
This status ailment causes the following effect:
- Chat is disabled
- 2% of maximum HP/SP is recovered each second
- Damage from the next attack is amplified by 1.5x
This status ailment is caused by:

To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Base level and INT reduce the duration
Divest
This status ailment causes the following effect:
- The player can not reequip any items into a given equipment slot, depending on which one was targeted.
This status ailment is caused by:
- Rogue class skills: Divest Armor, Divest Helm, Divest Shield, Divest Weapon, Full Divestment
To prevent from infliction:
- High DEX lowers chance.
- Protection skills of Alchemists grant immunity.
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Relogging cancels the status.
- Alchemist protection skills "cure" divest status.
- Battle Chant instantly removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who uses it, including Divest.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Divest status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Divest status.
Freezing
This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Reduces Movement Speed by 30%
- Reduces Attack Speed by 30%
- Reduces Hard DEF by 30% (10% on monsters)
- Increases Fixed Cast Time by 50%
This status ailment is caused by:
- Kagerou/Oboro skill: Cast Ninja Spell (using Ice-Charm)
Notes:
- Base duration is 40 seconds from most sources.
- Freezing duration: 40 - (VIT + DEX) / 20 seconds
- Minimum duration of 10 seconds.
Frozen
For the Monster Exclusive Skill see NPC WIDEFREEZE.
This status ailment causes the following effects:
- All DEF contributed by items reduced by 50%.
- Monsters Hard-DEF and Soft-DEF is reduced by 50% (round up).
- Any FLEE will be negated.
- Increases your Hard-MDEF by 25%.
- Ignores Steal, Lex Aeterna, Wizard's skill - Storm Gust, Ninja's skill - Snow Flake Draft.
- Impossible to move, attack, pick up items, skill usage, sitting, force disconnection, and item usage.
- Armor attribute becomes "Water 1". (175% damage from Wind-based attacks, 25% damage from Water, 90% damage from Fire).
This status ailment is caused by:
- Mage skill: Frost Diver
- Wizard class skills: Frost Nova, Storm Gust, Jack Frost
- Hunter skill: Freezing Trap
- Bard skill: Unbarring Octave
- Minstrel/Gypsy skill: Tarot Card of Fate
- Kagerou/Oboro skill: Cast Ninja Spell
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Getting hit automatically cancels the effect.
- Priest's skill Status Recovery can undo the effect.
- Swordman's skill Provoke cancels effect.
- Scholar's skill Mind Breaker cancels the effect.
- Hard MDEF reduces the chance of being affected by 1% per point.
- Luk reduces the duration.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Frozen. However, it can't remove the frozen status from the Paladin itself since it can't cast any skill as long as he/she is frozen.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Frozen status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
Card effects:
- Evil Druid Card grants elemental immunity.
- Marc Card grants immunity.
- Megalodon Card increases resistance by 20%.

Grampus Morph
This status ailment causes the following effects:

Hallucination

Heat

This status ailment is inflicted only by Satan Morroc.
This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Drain HP each over time.
- Increases damage received from Fire property monsters.
- Increases damage received from Fire property attack.
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
Hell's Power
This status ailment is inflicted only by Satan Morroc This status ailment causes the following effect:
- The effected player cannot be resurrected.
- A purple skull appears on the players screen to indicate the status effect is active and lasts approximately 5 minutes.
To prevent affliction:
- None
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Relogging does NOT cancel the effect
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Hell's Power status.
Poison

This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Status-oriented DEF is reduced by 25%.
- If HP is over 25%, you will lose 1.5% + 2 HP of your max HP every second.
- SP Regeneration is disabled.
This status ailment is caused from the following skills:
- Thief class skills: Envenom, Enchant Poison, Venom Dust, Venom Splasher, Venom Knife
- Minstrel/Gypsy skill: Tarot Card of Fate
- Kagerou/Oboro skill: Cast Ninja Spell
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Green Herb, Green Potion, Panacea, Royal Jelly, Thief's skill - Detoxify can undo the effect.
- Having high VIT and LUK will reduce amount of time this ailment affects you.
- VIT reduces the chance of being affected by 1% per point of VIT.
- Priest's Slow Poison prevents damage taken from Poison but does not cure the reduced DEF effect. It is a very rarely used counter.
- Battle Chant initially removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who uses it, including poison.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including poison status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including poison status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target,the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.

- Having high INT will reduce amount of time this ailment affects you, as well as chance of being affected.
- INT reduces the chance by 1% per point of int.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Silence status. However it can't remove the silence status from the paladin itself since it can't cast any skill as long as he/she is silenced.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Silence status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target,the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.

- Gangster Mask increases resistance by 15%.

Sleep

This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Impossible to move, attack, pick up items, skill usage, sitting, force disconnection, and item usage.
- If enemy attacks you, you will always get hit.
- If enemy attacks you, they will have 2x CRIT chance with their attack.
This status ailment is caused by:

- Getting hit automatically cancels the effect.
- Having high LUK will reduce amount of time this ailment affects you.
- AGI reduces the chance of being affected by 1% per point of agi.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Sleep status. However it can't remove the sleep status from the paladin itself since it can't cast any skill as long as he/she is sleeping.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Sleep status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target,the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.
Card effects:
- Nightmare Card grants immunity.
- Coco Card increases resistance by 20%.
- Gemini-S58 Card increases resistance by 50% if the user has 80 or more base VIT.
Slow Casting

- Increases your casting time by 20% - 100%.
- Effect lasts 30 seconds.

Stone

This status ailment causes the following effects:
- All DEF contributed by items is reduced by 50%.
- Monsters Hard-DEF and Soft-DEF is reduced by 50% (round up).
- If HP is over 25%, you will lose 1% of your HP every 5 seconds.
- Increases your MDEF by 25%.
- Changes your elemental status as "Earth LV 1" (150% damage from Fire based attacks, 125% damage from Poison, 25% damage from Earth, 90% damage from Wind)
- Ignores Steal and Lex Aeterna.
- Impossible to move, attack, pick up items, skill usage, sitting, force disconnection, and item usage.
This status ailment is caused by:
- Mage skill: Stone Curse
- Minstrel/Gypsy skill: Tarot Card of Fate
- Kagerou/Oboro skill: Cast Ninja Spell
- Flame Skull Card
- Pest Card
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Getting hit by any damaging attack or skill (physical or magical) automatically cancels the effect.
- Status Recovery and Blessing can undo the effect.
- Hard MDEF reduces the chance of being affected by 1% per point.
- Luk reduces the duration.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Stone status, however it can't remove the Stone status from the paladin itself since it can't cast any skill as long as he/she is in stone status.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Stone status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
Card effects:
- Medusa Card grants immunity.
- Evil Druid Card grants elemental immunity.
- Munak Card increases resistance by 15%.
- Argos Card increases resistance by 20%.
- Seeker Card increases resistance by 30%.
- Gemini-S58 Card increases resistance by 30% if the user has 80 or more base VIT.
- Flame Skull Card increases resistance by 30%. Causes Stone Curse when being hit.
Note: The Stone status effect is a two-stage effect. When a character is first inflicted with the Stone status, they are still able to move, and being attacked does not cancel the effect - note that during this time they can be effected by Lex Aeterna, and cannot attack or use skills but still able to use items. Once the Stone "hardens," the character is immobilized, and being attacked will break the Stone curse.
Stun

This status ailment causes the following effects:
- Any flee will be negated.
- Impossible to move, attack, pick up items, skill usage, sitting, force disconnection, and item usage.
This status ailment is caused by:
- Swordman class skills: Fatal Blow, Smite, Gloria Domini, Shield Press
- Thief class skills: Stone Fling, Sonic Blow, Meteor Assault, Sightless Mind
- Merchant class skills: Hammer Fall, High Speed Cart Ram
- Mage class skills: Meteor Storm
- Archer class skills: Land Mine, Dazzler, Tarot Card of Fate
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Priest's skill Status Recovery can undo the effect.
- LUK will slightly reduce the duration of this ailment and the chance to be inflicted.
- VIT reduces the chance of being inflicted by 1% per point of vit.It also reduces the duration of the effect.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects removes all abnormal status effects from party members, including Stun status. However it can't remove the Stun status from the Paladin itself since it can't cast any skill as long as he/she is stunned.
- One of Battle Chant's random effects grants 60 seconds of immunity to all status effects to party members, including Stun status.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
- If the object inflicting the status effect is more than 10 levels above the target,the skill will ignore the target's status point based resistance.
Card effects:
- Orc Hero Card grants immunity.
- Stalactic Golem Card increases resistance by 20%.
- Gemini-S58 Card increases resistance by 30% if the user has 90 or more base AGI.
- Flame Skull Card increases resistance by 30%.
Equipments:
- Valkyrian Armor increases resistance by 50% if the user is Merchant, Swordsman or Thief Class.
- Stunner adds a 10% chance of inflicting Stun on the target when performing a physical attack.
- Wrench adds a 1% chance of inflicting Stun on the target when performing a physical attack.
Undead
This status ailment is caused solely by the Monster Exclusive Skills NPC CHANGEUNDEAD and NPC_DRAGONFEAR.
This status ailment causes the following effect:
- The player become Undead property.
- Support buffs such as Blessing and Increase AGI are removed.
- Support buffs such as Blessing and Increase AGI deal damage to the player and the buffs are not applied, even in PVM. They will do 1 damage, but cannot be copied by the Rogue class using Intimidate
- Heal and Sanctuary have no effect on the player in PvM
- Aspersio will deal damage to the player and can be copied by Rogue's Intimidate (verify?)
- The ailment causes the player's sprite to glow green.
To prevent from infliction:
- Bathory Card causes the skill inflicting this status to miss. (Do not work on Renewal)
- Evil Druid Card causes the skill inflicting this status to miss.
To assist in recovering from this ailment:
- Relogging cancels the status.
- Battle Chant instantly removes all buffs and status effects from the Paladin who uses it, including Undead.
- Dispell removes this ailment.
